How Marvel Studios Changed Moon Knight’s Layla to Avoid Stereotypes

Image
Marvel Studios' Moon Knight continues to give a fresh look into ancient Egyptian mythology while also providing a sense of authenticity regarding the cultural aspects of its expansive story. Through Oscar Isaac's Marc Spector and May Calamawy's Layla, this Marvel series has shared a fresh look into a place the MCU had never explored before while developing these brand-new heroes. The last two episodes in particular are Moon Knight 's biggest steps toward expanding into new cultural territory, with the entirety of their plots taking place in the deserts of Cairo. Layla was instrumental in developing those themes even further, which is particularly impressive considering that she's a character created specifically for the MCU - the same thing happened years ago with Clark Gregg's Phil Coulson. ADVERTISEMENT With Layla being a character fans had never seen in any medium before, Calamawy has been instrumental in making sure her role ...

Marvel Reveals Why It Changed Captain America's Shield In Avengers: Endgame

Image
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier  is just over a year old, meaning Sam Wilson has been Captain America for nearly one whole spin around the sun. The patriotic spin-off saw Anthony Mackie's Wilson and Sebastian Stan's Bucky Barnes come to terms with the loss of Steve Rogers and, in turn, the loss of the MCU's first Captain America.  And with this loss of one of Marvel Studio's biggest heroes, came the emergence of another. After receiving Cap's shield in the final moments of  Avengers: Endgame,  Sam Wilson had to deal with what it means to carry a mantle as storied as Captain America.  ADVERTISEMENT Avengers: Endgame But eagle-eyed fans would notice this was not the same shield that Chris Evans' man in blue had used throughout his time in the MCU up to that point. Not to say it wasn't HIS shield, but the sidearm seen in  Endgame  had seemingly had some work done to it after being destroyed at the hands of Thanos during the fin...

Jake Gyllenhaal Reveals How the MCU Changed His Perspective on Acting

Image
Nearly three years ago, Marvel Studios officially concluded the Infinity Saga with Spider-Man: Far From Home , the second of three web-slinging solo films in the MCU. While it's moved into the background due to the record-breaking success of Spider-Man: No Way Home , this movie became a hit in its own right for the franchise behind Tom Holland, Samuel L. Jackson, and Jake Gyllenhaal. Gyllenhaal made his impact on the story with his live-action take on Quentin Beck, who became the high-tech supervillain Mysterio after starting off as an ally to Holland's Spider-Man. His influence was felt throughout various scenes in No Way Home as well, and even though the character didn't return for a second outing, there's a very real chance that he's still causing his own mayhem. ADVERTISEMENT In the real world, Gyllenhaal has taken numerous opportunities to speak highly of his time working with Marvel Studios, heaping praise upon Holland for help...

Disney+ Just Changed Moon Knight's TV Rating to Be More Mature

Image
This March has seen the greatest push for an adult MCU yet as the Netflix series - including Daredevil , The Punisher , and more - made the jump to Disney+. As the month comes to an end, Disney+ will premiere  Moon Knight  starring Oscar Issac, which despite being described as PG-13, looks to be showing signs of being more mature than anything Marvel Studios has released to date. Moon Knight  has long been described as the MCU's most mature, violent, and dark outing yet. Diving headfirst into themes of mental illness and ancient mythology with plenty of scary monsters along the way, the series looks to be abandoning all the classic MCU stereotypes in favor of a dark and gritty adaptation of the Fist of Vengeance. ADVERTISEMENT There are many differences in Disney+ among regions, for example, some parts of the world have drastically different content to others. But one area that sets the U.K. apart from most other territories is its unique rating syst...

Daredevil Star Wants One Thing Changed About His MCU Costume

Image
Phase 4 of the MCU has introduced an impressive number of new characters to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, such as Yelena Belova, the Eternals, Shang-Chi, and Kate Bishop. At the same time, Marvel Studios also reintroduced several characters from Marvel's television series as well, particularly Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin and Charlie Cox's Daredevil from the Marvel Netflix series. While D'Onofrio's Kingpin returned in Hawkeye on Disney+, Cox's Matt Murdock appeared as a teaser-type cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home , setting the stage for his character to play a larger role within the MCU. ADVERTISEMENT In the meantime, however, there are still questions about the hero's Netflix show's canonicity. In fact, that debate just got more interesting now that  Daredevil , along with Jessica Jones , Luke Cage ,  The Punisher , and more, is set to arrive on Disney+ on March 16.  So will Cox's "really good lawyer...

Loki Director Reveals Which Episode Changed the Most During Editing

Image
Before  Spider-Man: No Way Home  fully embraced the Multiversal side of the MCU, there came  Loki . The timeline-hopping Disney+ series led by Tom Hiddleston kickstarted the concept of alternate universes in Marvel Studios' playground, impacting countless MCU projects going forward. The rousing critical success from critics and fans alike has even affected releases as early as  Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness , which is reportedly set to feature even more cameos inspired by those of  Loki  and  No Way Home . One of these appearances may be coming from the God of Mischief himself, as Hiddleston is expected to return as Loki in the Multiversal sequel. If that wasn't enough to tie  Loki  to Benedict Cumberbatch's upcoming solo flick, what looks to be a Time Variance Authority door can be seen in the latest  Multiverse of Madness  teaser. ADVERTISEMENT While fans wait to see where Loki and co. pop up next,  Loki 's director reveal...
