As Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures reap incredible rewards from Spider-Man: No Way Home 's run at the box office, Sony continues working diligently to build its own universe of Spider-Man characters. While the first two Venom movies became somewhat successful, financially more than critically, things have not gone so well for the studio in recent times. Sony is currently reeling from the disappointing reception to Jared Leto's Morbius , which was widely panned by critics and turned in one of the lowest opening weekend box office totals in more than a decade. However, even that level of negativity isn't stopping Sony from trying to build up more characters through spin-off solo films. It was already bad when critics could only see  Morbius  the day before its release. So it was no surprise when it was panned critically while also earning itself a rare C+ from CinemaScore, which resulted in its plummet at the box office. Now, it may be a negative sign for Sony's  Madame Web too. At this point, Sony will be lucky to break even on the Jared Leto-led production, but it certainly puts any sequels to this pseudo-vampire movie in jeopardy. Not to mention the rest of Sony's possible plans, if its baffling post-credit scenes are to be believed. Just a few weeks ago, Warner Bros. completely changed up its upcoming slate of DC Comics projects. Dwayne Johnson's  Black Adam  was shifted into later this year and both  The Flash  and  Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom  were pushed into 2023.  Shazam! Fury of the Gods  got the long end of the stick, and instead of being bumped, was pulled into December of this year. Now, instead of 3-4 more live-action projects for 2022, fans are only looking at two. It's a sad change for many, but on the bright side, at least they didn't all get pushed into next year. Sony's Marvel Universe is currently in the age of expansion as it is set to introduce more characters tied to Spider-Man set in a different universe. After two  Venom movies and the recently-released Morbius , one of the next projects will be Kraven the Hunter , a film that will be spearheaded by one of Spider-Man's greatest enemies (again).  The upcoming movie will feature Aaron Taylor-Johnson portraying the lead villain, and it is directed by J.C. Morbius Is Bleeding Out Marvel According to  Boxoffice Pro , Sony's  Morbius  is estimated to suffer a massive second-weekend drop of 73% at the domestic box office, earning just a little over $10 million compared to its opening of $39 million. Morbius  has finally arrived in theaters and things already don't appear to be going well. Jared Leto's vampire debut opened to the worst Thursday night box office haul since  The New Mutants , which followed weeks of critical negativity and signs of the same from general audiences. Despite that,  Morbius  still managed to earn itself a mediocre 67% Rotten Tomatoes audience score at the time of writing. After Venom and Morbius , Sony's Marvel Universe is expected to expand with more projects in the coming years, one of them centered around Madame Web. Directed by S.J. Marvel Studios veteran Tom Hiddleston remains as popular as ever in the MCU as the franchise goes deeper into Phase 4. Through the years,  Black Panther: Wakanda Forever  had its fair share of ups and downs. The film's development suffered a major setback when lead star Chadwick Boseman tragically passed away in 2020, leaving director Ryan Coogler to map out a new narrative. Ancient Egypt is set to find its way into more than one superhero project in 2022 thanks to Dwayne Johnson's Black Adam from DC and Oscar Isaac's Moon Knight from Marvel Studios. Of the names associated with the Disney acquisition of Fox, Deadpool is one at the front of many fans' minds.
