Marvel Director Gets Candid About the MCU’s Lack of a Plan

Image
There are many reasons the MCU keeps on winning: consistent quality, blockbuster action, and interconnected storytelling on a scale never put to screen before. Across the Infinity Saga, Marvel Studios spent over ten years introducing audiences to heroes and villains and building towards an epic conclusion that got audiences so invested that it went on to become the biggest film of all time. Naturally, the numerous projects that have released over the latest 14 years have come courtesy of countless creative geniuses, but one man sits at the helm of it all: Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige. The popular producer has been involved with every film and series to come out of the MCU and is ultimately the one making the final decisions and plans that keeps it all connected. ADVERTISEMENT For years, fans have been talking about Feige's master plan for the MCU, with the producer said to have the next decade of Marvel stories mapped out. But based on recent...

Benedict Cumberbatch Debunks Avengers Status of MCU's Doctor Strange

Image
Benedict Cumberbatch is only a short time away from kicking off Marvel Studios' Phase 4 theatrical efforts with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness . After appearing in the last two Avengers movies and an Avengers-level solo movie in Spider-Man: No Way Home , the MCU veteran is ready to lead the way in his own massive solo sequel. Doctor Strange 2 will see Strange deal with everything the Multiverse can throw at him, from other-worldly visitors to a Scarlet Witch that's seemingly more powerful than ever. This all comes during a time when the Avengers are largely broken up as a team after defeating Thanos in Avengers: Endgame , and there are no signs pointing to when they may assemble again. ADVERTISEMENT An early synopsis for Doctor Strange 2 teased Strange's status within the Avengers hierarchy, particularly now that Captain America and Iron Man are no longer around for the team. However, Cumberbatch recently revealed that this s...

Sebastian Stan Comments on the MCU’s Confusing Growth

Image
The Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to add more heroes and villains into the mix, meaning that more projects are being developed behind the scenes. While the Infinity Saga mainly focused on the big screen, the MCU's Phase 4 is taking it up a notch by expanding onto the small screen, leading to the arrival of Disney+ shows such as WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier .  Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige addressed the so-called overabundance of MCU content, noting that the uniqueness of each Disney+ series prevented such an impression and also saying that he "feels like the audience has responded the way we wanted them to." ADVERTISEMENT However, as the massive superhero franchise expands, many would agree that it might be hard to keep track of the MCU's story. This is on top of the ever-growing cast of characters, the topic of what is and isn't canon to the franchise, and the introduction of the vast Multiverse. ...

Marvel Producer Teases the Future of MCU's Illuminati

Image
The Marvel universe is filled with superhero teams of different natures, from genius think-tanks like the Illuminati to families like the Fantastic Four. The MCU looks to be building toward several of these with the introduction of many child heroes pointing toward a Young Avengers team-up and new heroes stepping up to form the New Avengers. Recent reports hinted at a Multiverse Illuminati assembling in  Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness , something which was validated by the latest trailer. The Illuminati is a group of the smartest heroes who meet in secret to discuss strategy and develop plans to handle the gravest of threats. ADVERTISEMENT Originally, this team included Tony Stark's Iron Man, Professor X, Doctor Strange, Inhuman leader Black Bolt, and Atlantean ruler Namor. The genius intelligence and varied expertise of the entire line-up made them perfectly equipped to prepare for anything from an out-of-control Hulk to superhero civil...

Sony Reveals New Spider-Man Trailer Promoting MCU’s Spider-Verse

Image
Millions of Marvel fans have, by now, witnessed the triumphant return of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's cinematic Spider-Men in  Spider-Man: No Way Home . The Sony and Marvel Studios threequel not only proved to be an impressive outing for the MCU's main Peter Parker, Tom Holland, but through Multiversal shenanigans, it was able to bring in "Peter 2" and "Peter 3”, played by Maguire and Garfield, respectively. No Way Home ended up smashing box-office records and cementing its place as one of the top-grossing movies of all time. Would it have been as successful without the inclusion of the other two Spider-Men? It's difficult to say. Spider-Man films have traditionally and consistently scored big at the box office, but Garfield and Maguire surely provided a bit of extra oomph. ADVERTISEMENT The film will be out on digital home release on March 22, 2022 and to promote it, Sony has kicked the marketing machine back into gear...

Marvel Studios Exec Hypes Up MCU's Upcoming Slate

Image
After a jam-packed year of content, the span between Hawkeye and Spider-Man: No Way Home and the launch of Marvel's 2022 slate has made all MCU fans wish Thanos hadn't destroyed Doctor Strange's Time Stone. Thankfully, 2022 isn't 2020; and with the beginning of Spring comes the beginning of yet another banner year of Phase 4 MCU storytelling on both Disney+ and in theaters.  In the meantime, the studio has been enjoying the fruits of their labors, particularly in terms of No Way Home 's box office success and the critical praise for their inaugural year of Disney+ shows.  ADVERTISEMENT But when it comes to Marvel, no show or film's story ever truly ends, as all tales somehow connect to those still to come or who have come before. One of the best new examples of this is  Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness , which picks up where No Way Home and WandaVision left off, introduces new characters, and possibly ties into oth...

Image
In February 2020, Marvel Studios proclaimed  "the universe is expanding"  ahead of their extension of original content on Disney+. The pandemic would put those plans on pause, but once 2021 rolled around, the Marvel Cinematic Universe would dominate social conversation for the full calendar year. Even during the theater drought, the success of shows like  WandaVision  and  The Falcon and the Winter Soldier  allowed for the MCU to remain at the top of Hollywood's hierarchy.  Marvel Studios will continue their streaming surge in 2022, as the franchise is set to debut shows for rookie characters like Oscar Isaac's Moon Knight and Iman Vellani's Ms. Marvel. Before those originals hit the small screen, the Marvel branch of Disney+ is getting a significant boost of new content. Photo Reveals MCU's New Superhero Detective

One reported rumor that has got fans excited is Moon Knight having " a choreographed sequence that draws a parallel to the gruesome hallway fight sequence from Marvel's  Daredevil  on Netflix."  Additionally, this moment of brutality would likely involve another of Marc Spector's superhero personas from the comics, called Mr. Knight. MCU's Abomination Actor Teases 'Insane' She-Hulk Disney+ Show

Image
Marvel’s Disney+ streak is currently on hiatus after a successful run with  Hawkeye to finish 2021, but fans shouldn’t fret—that train will start back up soon. The next outing under its belt will be Oscar Isaac’s Moon Knight , whose trailer knocked the socks off of audiences. After that’s in the bag,  Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk  will add to the MCU's Disney+ collection. The release order isn’t known yet, but both will continue the streak of introducing brand-new heroes. ADVERTISEMENT The difference with She-Hulk, however, is how strong the ties are between the newly established Jennifer Walters and the wider MCU. For one, her origin story is directly tied to her cousin: Bruce Banner, that famous green Avenger. The universe-saving hero won’t be the only connection the series leans on. It was previously announced that Tim Roth’s Abomination, who was last seen properly in The Incredible Hulk  (brief Shang-Chi cameo not included), would be making his gra...

Eternals Just Broke the MCU's Disney+ Viewership Record

Image
Eternals  didn't see the success that Marvel Studios hoped for during its worldwide theater run in late 2021. On top of premiering during a global pandemic, the film was also plagued with mixed reviews from both critics and fans alike, affecting its box office numbers each week. Eternals  is now available to stream on Disney+, which will provide fans with an easy way to revisit it and possibly change their outlook on the movie. The film had as much potential as any in the MCU, with Oscar-winning director Chloé Zhao at the helm and a slew of A-list actors such as Richard Madden, Angelina Jolie, and Kit Harington in the cast. Many viewers had high expectations for the ambitious project, but due to claims of it being exposition-heavy and containing too many characters, a lot of viewers didn't consider it a must-watch. ADVERTISEMENT However, it seems as though the tides have turned, as a report was recently released showing that  Eternals  has broken...

How Robert Downey Jr. & Hugh Jackman Inspired the MCU's Kingpin

Image
Villains are a big part of what makes superhero films work. As people say, the hero is only as strong as their antagonist. From Tom Hiddleston’s Loki to Josh Brolin’s Thanos and Michael B. Jordan’s Killmonger—the MCU has plenty of iconic figures on that front. Recently, another big bad re-entered the spotlight, one who hadn’t been seen since his show’s cancelation in 2018: Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin. Wilson Fisk showed up in Marvel Studios’ recent streaming series Hawkeye , where it was revealed that he was the big man behind the curtain. No Way Home's Ending Is a Big Problem for the MCU's Multiverse

Image
Spider-Man: No Way Home  finally allowed the MCU to utilize the Multiverse to bring together multiple generations of fan-favorite elements from the wall-crawler's cinematic history. Despite how satisfying it was for viewers, this created one big problem for the MCU's web-slinger as Tom Holland's hero had to face off against villains from five different Spider-Man movies throughout  No Way Home . Even with villains from across two decades of film, the story throughout the threequel still felt MCU-centric thanks to the incorporation of Doctor Strange and his magic, as well as continued talk about The Blip and Captain America's shield being added to the Statue of Liberty. Keeping with the theme, Spider-Man: No Way Home went a step further to set new expectations and ramifications for the Marvel Cinematic Universe as it became the first feature film to fully dive into the concept of the Multiverse.  ADVERTISEMENT But Peter Parker's big s...
