The Fantastic Four has had a rough time during the franchise's tenure in the blockbuster space. While the early 2000s films weren't downright terrible, they weren't amazing for most audiences either. It's the 2015 reboot that did the most damage.  Fan4stic  reimagined the entire story with younger leads, dark and broody undertones, all on top of egregious writing—just look at its critical and fan reception. Ever since it was announced at D23 that director Jon Watts would be helming the next  Fantastic Four film, fans couldn't wait to see Marvel's first family introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But, even more than the titular family, fans awaited the arrival of one of Marvel's greatest villains, Doctor Doom, the ruler of Latveria. After so many years of countless superhero projects, almost every major creative in Hollywood has taken a dip into the genre. Some may have a better track record than others, but there are plenty of comeback stories like Ryan Reynolds, Michael B. Jordan, and most recently,  Fantastic Four -turned- Moon Knight  writer Jeremy Slater. 20th Century Fox made its second attempt at a Fantastic Four  movie in 2015 with  Chronicle 's Josh Trank in the directing chair and Jeremy Slater penning the script. Marvel's First Family, the Fantastic Four, has a cinematic track record that seems to be less than stellar. The two films from the mid-2000s got many things right but still missed the mark with a large number of fans. And then there was the 2015 outing, starring Michael B. Jordan and Miles Teller. Widely viewed as merely a ploy by 20th Century Fox to hold onto the Fantastic Four film rights, the 2015 movie was a certified critical and box office bomb. In 2005's  Fantastic Four  and its 2007 sequel,  Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer , a definite standout among the cast was Michael Chiklis as Ben Grimm aka The Thing. Even though  Spider-Man: No Way Home 's box office numbers continue to make headlines, the film's success is no accident. Two decades' worth of Spider-Man stars in a single film during a pandemic required careful planning and coordination; and the man tasked with such a formidable undertaking was none other than Marvel's future Fantastic Four director, Jon Watts.
