MOSCOW: A research team from HSE University, Skoltech , MPGU and MISIS has developed a nanophotonic-microfluidic sensor whose potential applications include detection, monitoring and assessment of treatment success. Today, the device can identify dissolved gases and liquids in low concentrations with high accuracy. The study appeared in Optics Letters . According to the World Health Organisation, in 2020 the global cancer burden was estimated at 19.3 million new cases and 10 million deaths. WHO experts believe that an estimated 30% of new cases could be prevented, and about the same proportion could be cured, with early detection. FLORIDA: A new study has found patients with cancer who receive chemotherapy -- and some targeted therapies may mount an inadequate immune response to Covid-19 vaccination. The research has been published in the 'Mayo Clinic Proceedings: Innovation, Quality & Outcomes Journal'. "It is important for patients with cancer who are receiving chemotherapy to receive a Covid-19 vaccine," said Saranya Chumsri, M.D., a Mayo Clinic hematologist and oncologist, and author of the paper. Dr Chumsri said this advice also applied to patients with cancer who are taking a CDK 4/6 inhibitors. These inhibitors are a newer class of medicines used to treat hormone-receptor-positive and HER2-negative breast cancers. Dr Chumsri said that while CDK 4/6 inhibitors are not conventionally considered to be as immunosuppressive as chemotherapy, her research on patients with breast cancer who take these drugs found that they exhibited less optimal neutralizing antibody activity. NEW DELHI: Drug firm Zydus Cadila on Thursday said it has received final approval from the US health regulator to market Nelarabine injection, used to treat certain types of cancer, in the American market with 180-days of marketing exclusivity. The company has received approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) for the Nelarabine injection 250 MG/50ML, a generic version of Arranon injection. Zydus Pharmaceuticals USA Inc, a unit of the company, has been granted a competitive generic therapy (CGT) designation for the product and therefore is eligible for 180 days of exclusivity, Zydus Cadila said in a statement. According to IQVIA, Nelarabine injection had annual sales of around USD 34.5 million in the US. The drug is manufactured at the Zydus group's injection manufacturing facility in Ahmedabad and will be launched commercially within the US market immediately.
