Marvel Studios has undoubtedly suffered many challenges over the years to reach the level of success it's seeing today with the Marvel Cinematic Universe But following the tragic death of T'Challa actor Chadwick Boseman, the studio is facing its toughest task yet: continuing the  Black Panther  franchise without the star that made it such a success. Director Ryan Coogler will return to achieve that goal this year with  Black Panther: Wakanda Forever . The sequel will continue to explore the world of Wakanda and its people in the absence of the iconic King T'Challa as Marvel Studios has remained adamant it will not recast the original lead. During a Super Bowl LIV commercial break, Marvel Studios promised that the  "universe [was] expanding."  At the time, that meant canonical streaming series like  WandaVision  and  Loki  coming to Disney+, but since then, the expansion tagline has taken on a whole new meaning. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has debuted animated shows, brought characters from Netflix projects into their blockbusters, and is set to air two live-action Disney+ specials later this year. Among those one-offs is The   Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special , which will be the second time fans see Peter Quill and company in the MCU this year. As Marvel Studios ramps up towards its 2022 slate of MCU content, the studio is still reveling in the glory that came with its 2021 offerings. As a part of last year's calendar, the MCU took a dive into the world of streaming for the first time, garnering multiple award nods for their efforts. Amongst these was last summer's mischievous Multiversal adventure  Loki . The series not only jump-started the whole idea of the MCU Multiverse but also earned recognition from critics worldwide for its excellence in storytelling. In the months leading up to Spider-Man: No Way Home 's theatrical debut, the internet was a minefield of leaks and spoilers about the anticipated threequel, particularly in regard to Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man roles. Still, these former Spider stars weren't the only ones. Images from Daredevil's scene with Tom Holland also leaked online, confirming speculation that Charlie Cox's Matt Murdock would, in fact, serve as Peter's lawyer. Despite these various spoilers, as well as a rough recording of the film's trailer making its way online ahead of its official release, No Way Home delivered record-breaking numbers at the box office. The next film fans will see from Marvel Studios is  Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness . While there will have been a five-month wait since  Spider-Man: No Way Home  last year, if the trailers are any indication, those months of anticipation are sure to be worth it. Given how great the Multiverse was for the web-slinger, the opportunities are endless for Benedict Cumberbatch's next adventure. The latest trailer showed plenty of footage, including Patrick Stewart's return, some mysterious Ultron bots, Elizabeth Olsen's Wanda Maximoff going crazy, and Strange having some weird nightmares. Out of all the Marvel Studios’ projects of last year, there’s no doubt that Spider-Man: No Way Home was the biggest. Not only was it one of fans’ most anticipated, but it quickly became one of the most successful movies of all time. With Tom Holland’s Spidey threequel not only bringing back Alfred Molina’s Doc Ock and Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin, but also Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man, it's no surprise it is a hit. The project was long-rumored to play off of the franchise’s long legacy, and it did so with grace. None of the nostalgic returning actors or callbacks got in the way of the plot or emotional strength of the movie. ADVERTISEMENT Audiences only want to see more.
