After years of starring in his own solo series on Netflix, Charlie Cox has finally made his way onto the big screen within the MCU as Matt Murdock, better known as Daredevil. While the debate about the show's canonicity to the larger universe is still a hot topic, Cox had just over a minute of screen time in Spider-Man: No Way Home offering his services to Tom Holland's Peter Parker.  Now that Cox's Daredevil is officially in play, fans are already looking forward to where he may show up next, particularly as he has yet to appear in costume as the Man Without Fear. As Marvel Studios expands into its Phase 4 story, and onto Disney+ through series storytelling, the MCU's roster of characters hasn't just grown but advanced due to an impressive number of new female characters. In fact, in just 2021 alone, Marvel introduced audiences to Black Widow 's Yelena Belova, Loki 's Sylvie, Kate Bishop from Hawkeye , the trio of Sersi, Makkari, and Thena from Eternals , and more.  This change is also taking place behind the camera as well, as many of the Disney+ series films that featured those female heroes were also directed by women. Marvel's Netflix shows introduced a plethora of incredible characters such as Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and the Punisher, while also expanding the franchise into the realm of television. While the projects reference major events from the MCU such as the Battle of New York in 2012's The Avengers , it is still unknown if the shows are canon to the big-screen franchise, especially considering the fact that they are produced under Marvel Television. Despite that, the Defenders franchise still earned a generally positive reception from fans and critics due to its stellar storytelling and impressive performances from the cast.
