Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange is one of the most important players in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Phase 4 expands into 2022. Having first played the master magician in the 2016 solo movie Doctor Strange , the hero had supporting roles in four other live-action films before this year's solo sequel - Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness . Alongside Cumberbatch's hero in the original solo film were Rachel McAdams' Christine Palmer and Benedict Wong's Wong, both of whom will be back this time around. Wong even got promoted to Sorcerer Supreme. Also along for the ride is Chiwetel Ejiofor's Karl Mordo, although this movie has only shown the Master Mordo Variant that Strange will fight. Marvel fans across the world are conflicted about their feelings toward the latest entry into the Sony Spider-Man Universe.  Morbius  received less than stellar reviews andhas one of the lowest cinema scores in Marvel movie history. After an almost comical amount of delays, Sony Pictures’  Morbius  has finally hit theaters worldwide. The film sees Jared Leto’s titular character accidentally become a vampire after trying to cure himself of his rare blood disease. Sony Pictures' universe of Spider-Man characters has been a divisive topic for a long time amongst fans. Many feel like the studio is consistently mishandling its characters, and that they'd be better off alongside Tom Holland's Spider-Man in the MCU. However, Sony doesn't feel the same way. Eternals  introduced a new batch of interesting characters into the MCU that includes the likes of Gemma Chan's Sersi, Angelina Jolie's Thena, and Kit Harington's Dane Whitman. The Chloé Zhao-directed Marvel movie is a unique entry in the franchise's Phase 4 slate as it focuses on cosmic immortals who have been living on Earth for millennia. While the film ended on a massive cliffhanger, it still managed to showcase surprises, and one of them was the arrival of Starfox and Pip the Troll in the mid-credits sequence. While Marvel fans wait for another round of blockbuster releases from the MCU in 2022, the studio's 26th movie, Eternals , is starting to make its rounds throughout the world as it streams on Disney+. In the second post-credits scene of Eternals , audiences saw Kit Harington's Dane Whitman hesitating to open a box in his office at the Natural History Museum. Upon opening the box, Dane was bombarded by eerie indistinct whispering—the blade within beckoning his touch. But, before Dane could touch it, Blade, played by Mahershala Ali just off-screen, warned him about its potential dangers: "Sure you're ready for that, Mr. Whitman?" Eternals Fans have theorized why Blade would stop Whitman from touching the sword, known as the Ebony Blade in the comics. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings  was a pleasant surprise for many MCU fans in 2021, providing an origin story for the character of Simu Liu's Shang-Chi and propelling him to being a household name. While the film was praised for its neatly written plot and introducing new characters to the franchise, many viewers were also impressed with the visual effects and the hand-to-hand fight choreography based on martial arts. Spider-Man: No Way Home was released just under a month ago, and the film is still crushing the box office. As exciting as Tom Holland's adventures as the web-slinger are, his movie wasn't necessarily the one people were thinking about coming out of theaters. Hawkeye recently proved to be one of Marvel Studios' most beloved Disney+ series yet, leaving behind the world-ending threats and game-changing reveals to tell a street-level superhero story that takes full advantage of its festive setting. Throughout its six-episode run, the archer-centric solo outing was widely praised for its characters, relationships, and excellent writing. Although,  Hawkeye  hit a bump in the road with its final moments as many fans were left dissatisfied by its post-credits scene. Marvel Studios is in the midst of its biggest slate of projects to date, which started with Phase 4 in 2021 and will continue with even more excitement coming in 2022. Included in that excitement will be a new round of post-credits scenes from potentially a dozen movies and Disney+ shows coming in the next 12 months, although there is no way to tell what those post-credits scenes will actually show yet. 2021 featured more than a dozen new additions to this legacy from the MCU's five Disney+ shows and four movies that debuted between January and December.
