Ever since Spider-Man swung into theaters in 2002, there has seldom been much of a break between wall-crawler solo films. Marvel Studios has enjoyed unprecedented success on Disney+. From  WandaVision 's Emmy nominations to Loki 's streaming records, the Marvel Cinematic Universe's popularity has only increased with their weekly streaming releases. 2022 looks to replicate those triumphs beginning this Wednesday with the debut of Oscar Isaac's  Moon Knight . The Marvel Cinematic Universe kicks off this year's release slate the same way it began in 2021. Before Marvel Studios movies make their way to theaters this summer, the franchise restarts on Disney+ with Oscar Isaac's  Moon Knight . Just as  WandaVision  opened up 2021 as the first MCU streaming series,  Moon Knight  represents the first time a Marvel Studios rookie will debut on Disney+. Moon Knight  will follow Steven Grant, a calm gift shop employee whose life is turned upside down when revelations about his past begin to surface. Isaac is pulling double duty in this series, as Grant is just one of the multiple personalities within his character. Mix in the worlds of Egyptian gods and  "David Koresh" -inspired cult leaders, and Isaac's character has enough internal and external conflicts for lifetimes. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is the next film on Marvel Studios’ slate, and it’s set to bring Benedict Cumberbatch back into the titular role as he tries to keep all reality from breaking apart. Marvel Studios is about to kick-start its 2022 theatrical run with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness , arriving in theaters in early May. The film features Marvel's master magician alongside Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch, this sequel has no limits to how far it can go with expanding the MCU's story. Much of this will come by featuring some of the franchise's strongest and most powerful characters to date. Following his efforts in Spider-Man: No Way Home , Strange looks to be pushing his sorcery skills past any limits previously thought to be in place. Marvel fans were gently reminded about Doctor Strange’s origin story in last year’s What If…? . One of its many installments featured a story that saw Benedict Cumberbatch’s sorcerer trying to undo the death of the love of his life: Rachel McAdams’ Christine Palmer. The story doesn’t have a happy ending, but then again, neither do their romantic entanglements in the MCU. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness  promises to be a crossover event worthy of  Avengers: Infinity War  and  Spider-Man: No Way Home  comparisons. Aside from being a sequel to 2016's  Doctor Strange ,  Multiverse of Madness  will bring legacy characters from franchises outside of the Marvel Cinematic Universe canon into the fold. Doctor Strange 2 's second trailer confirmed a year's worth of speculation with the vocal appearance of Patrick Stewart's Professor X.
